Billericay held its annual "Teddy Bears Picnic in the Park" recently and it proved to be a very enjoyable and successful event. We had magic flubber for children to play with and have had requests for the "recipe". A degree from Hogwarts is not required so give it a try!

"Writing a message can sometimes be more powerful than the spoken word: it can be kept as a reminder when gentle and discreet encouragement is needed - small children love getting notes. Also it can survive an initial angry crumple to be recovered by teenagers when time and attitude are perhaps more accommodating."

"Meal times with a 7 year old can often be quite stressful. My younger son just can't sit still, he's up and down all the time and constantly fidgeting. One parent suggested that the cause of this might be that the chair/table were at the wrong height for a small child. She was right, you try eating nicely when the table is miles too high for you - no wonder he wanted to stand up all the time! - a booster cushion - simple!"

‘My two just seem to continually fight and argue over toys, and even over who has a cuddle with me! I know that this is supposed to be quite normal for siblings, but as they get older it seems to be getting worse. My mum always said “treat your children equally, but not the same” and I do try not to compare them or to show favouritism. I wondered whether it may be that they want attention, or that I never have time to play with them individually. So I have tried very consciously to give them each some time to play and to talk with me. I’ve also tried  to consciously praise them and encourage them when I see them playing well together instead of just ignoring them. Although it is early days, it looks as though this is having a positive result and there are less squabbles.’
