Ideas provided by parents which have proved to work for them
‘My two just seem to continually fight and argue over toys, and even over who has a cuddle with me! I know that this is supposed to be quite normal for siblings, but as they get older it seems to be getting worse. My mum always said “treat your children equally, but not the same” and I do try not to compare them or to show favouritism. I wondered whether it may be that they want attention, or that I never have time to play with them individually. So I have tried very consciously to give them each some time to play and to talk with me. I’ve also tried to consciously praise them and encourage them when I see them playing well together instead of just ignoring them. Although it is early days, it looks as though this is having a positive result and there are less squabbles.’
